The art of paper: Antalis sponsors “Christmas Spirit”, the latest collaborative brief of the Paper Artist Collective

The beauty of paper is something that the Paper Specification Team at Antalis can talk about at length. It’s why they were delighted to be able to support the latest creative brief of the Paper Artist Collective.

The Paper Artist Collective is a global community of artists with a shared passion for creating beautiful things from paper. The Paper Artist Collective helps to raise the profile of paper art and artists while also providing its members with a platform where the community can come together to discuss, collaborate, exhibit, and inspire.

As part of the membership the Paper Artist Collective sets a brief two or three times a year. For the final brief of 2020, the theme “Christmas Spirit” was set to celebrate Christmas, at the end of what has been a very challenging year for everyone, and the results have certainly helped to spread festive cheer and positivity.

The paper: Keaykolour and Curious Collection

Paper from Antalis’ creative range was sent to all participating members: Keaykolour Guardsman Red, a rich red; Atoll, a teal green; and Particles Moonlight – 100% recycled with a shimmery fleck, plus Alchemy Gold from the Curious Collection.

The process

The process of turning plain sheets of paper into works of art varied from artist to artist. Some started off with initial sketches while others went straight to working with the paper. The style of work also varied from simple cutting to create a silhouette to a complex 3D sculpture.

The results

14 artists from seven countries submitted their responses to the Christmas Spirit brief, each showcasing the wide variety of skills, techniques, and inspiration of the paper artists. They also showcased the beauty and versatility of paper as a creative material.

Vicky Weatherington, Creative Papers & Specification Sales Manager said; “Antalis has been delighted to have supported this project and help create truly inspirational and uplifting creative works of art. These designers and artists have pushed the boundaries in every direction of the creative papers from colour, touch to visual effects.”
