How does retro-reflective vinyl work?

Retro-reflective plotter vinyl works by using tiny catadioptric glass beads embedded in the PVC film. These beads reflect light back towards its source, making signage and graphics highly visible in low light or night-time conditions. This makes reflective plotter vinyl ideal for visual communication such as safety signage, advertising, and display graphics where visibility is essential.

What is the difference between economy and fleet marking reflective films?

The ORALITE® 5200 economy grade is a reflective film designed for temporary outdoor use such as informational signs and promotional displays, with a durability of up to three years. In contrast, the ORALITE® 5600E fleet marking grade is a premium reflective film. It was developed for long-term vehicle markings in line with ECE 104 regulations, offering flexibility on corrugations and rivets and a durability of up to seven years.

Can reflective film be printed on with UV or latex inks?

Yes. Reflective plotter vinyl is compatible with multiple printing techniques. For example, the ORALITE® 5400 commercial grade can be printed with solvent-based, UV, or latex inks. This makes it versatile for producing reflective guidance signs, information boards, or advertising graphics while ensuring excellent adhesion and durability.

Can reflective vinyl be applied to uneven surfaces or rivets?

Yes. Certain reflective plotter vinyl, such as fleet marking grades, are designed with adaptability in mind. They can be applied to challenging surfaces, including corrugations and rivets. This is particularly valuable in visual communication for vehicle graphics, branded fleet markings, and outdoor signage that demands both durability and consistent retro-reflective performance.
