The brief from Dr Martens incorporated the creation of a range of sustainable POS and interior decoration for their London store which moved away from traditional PVC-based products. While Dr Martens had a clear vision for the design, they sought expertise in specifying suitably sustainable materials. Imageco were perfectly positioned to deliver this request as, with support from product experts at Antalis, they are ever-evolving the range of sustainable products offered to their customers. Antalis is also committed to continuously expanding our portfolio of eco-friendly materials, and with the expert specification support by our Specification Consultant, Claire White, the selection of suitable materials for this brief was easy.
A number of products were selected from the Antalis Visual Communications range, each being more environmentally friendly alternatives to traditional materials without compromising quality for interior decoration and signage projects. Katz display board was used for internal displays as a wood pulp, fully recyclable instore solution. Katz is manufactured using a highly sustainable production process that delivers excellent print quality as well as being dimensionally stable; ideal for the job in hand.
As for the store interior, the ceiling was brought to life with Xanita Print panels. Available in both Xanita Print and Xanita Kraft, the re-usable and recyclable product is a lightweight, customisable, high-strength fibre board which can be used for a vast array of applications from POS and basic signage to 3-dimentional structures, shop fittings, exhibitions and furniture.
Imageco Managing Director, Nathan Swinson Bullough, commented, “Our partners on the project, Syn Retail, produced the designs which we then brought to life using a mix of HP Latex, Efi Vutek and Zund technology. The whole project looked amazing.”
“Antalis’ eco-friendly materials were perfect for this project. We regularly refer to their Green Star System to help us understand the environmental credentials of each product and theirs recyclability at end of life. The support of their Specification Consultant, Claire, helped us ensure we selected sustainable materials that would achieve the best quality end result for the client. Katz board works well for the internal POS as it’s extremely rigid, with a vibrant finish. Xanita board is really versatile and we now use it for a wide range of applications as it brings even the most creative 3D design to life! “
The choice of materials means that when the store interior is updated – typically every six weeks or so – instead of being sent to landfill or for incineration, the POS and other display items can be reused or disposed of in paper recycling streams.
For a printer or brand considering how to create more sustainable shop fit-outs, Nathan offers the following advice, “Just do it! The future of print relies on it becoming more sustainable. Our sustainable journey was never a business plan for profit but the right thing to do; this is now turning on its head and we are reaping the rewards.”
