Covering the requirements of the brief

With the collaborative nature of the building in mind, Smith & Lewarne created a series of layered abstract images that could be interpreted in multiple ways and that would encourage conversation.

Smith & Lewarne approached specialist print providers in the South West, WithPrint, to produce samples and tests to check the artwork output quality and finish before progressing the job.

Covering walls and windows, the layered design used a lot of mixed media. As The Edge is a high traffic space, it was important that any materials used were robust and durable. WithPrint director Alan Smith contacted Antalis for supply of several materials that he had used before and therefore trusted would provide the desired finish and longevity.

The solution

Window graphics

Drytac Interlam EcoTex lamination

Because the substrates were being used in an indoor public space, it was important that they met fire resistance standards. Antalis advised Alan on the fire resistance of each product, all of which met required regulations. Chosen by Alan for its high stability and durability, panels of aluminium composite board Dilite ACM were used for several sections of the graphic display. The material is also very light, which makes for easier installation. The Dilite ACM was hung on the wall with a split baton, which means it can also be lifted off and re-hung with ease.

The result

More than three years on, the graphics look as good as the day they were installed. Alan says it’s testament to choosing the right material for the job.

“I’d used all the products before and knew how well they performed, so I had no hesitation in recommending them to Smith & Lewarne.”

Alan Smith, WithPrint Director

“It’s incredible how after a few years on the walls at The Edge everything the WithPrint team installed looks like it did on day one, even in the corridors where people often queue to enter spaces. So often these sorts of materials get picked at or scuffed, but here that isn’t the case. WithPrint's expertise and valuable advice on specifying the right solution from Antalis, along with conscientious care from the maintenance team at The Edge, have meant this install is as durable as it is eye-catching.”
