Here's how we helped!
Inkmark is a small firm dedicated to the development of print and packaging solutions to enhance their client products.
They have over 40 years’ experience and a reputation for excellence in the production of printed materials, presentation kits, bespoke packaging and paper engineering.
Inkmark’s favourite chocolate making client, The Solid Chocolate Company, is an award-winning chocolatier that has won the World Food Innovation Award for Confectionery Innovation. Their great idea was to make 42 pieces of interlocking chocolate to produce a single 750g solid chocolate Easter egg, shattering the illusion of hollow Easter eggs being the norm.
To continue the innovation into their packaging, they wanted to develop a unique carton that could be re-closed as nobody should be able to eat 750g of solid chocolate in one go!
With this in mind, a carton was designed with an aperture for the egg to protrude enabling the structure of the egg to be visible to provide maximum shelf impact.
Having the support of the Antalis Paper Specification team and material available through the local Antalis Branch for quick delivery was crucial to the project, as was finding the right material.
The packaging design incorporated foiling and spot UV to complement the premium nature of the product. Perforations were positioned along the creases of the front surface to allow opening without affecting the graphics area of the box. This gave easy access to the front opening vacuum formed tray holding the 42 pieces of chocolate.
The material chosen had to be strong enough to hold the egg during transit, but also be able to be torn along the perforations easily. Several materials and perforation configurations were tested and Invercote Creato hit the brief.
Mark Sutor of Inkmark explains the reasons for their final choice of material:
“The stable structure, brightness of the printed colour, foiling and spot UV capabilities and the reduced cracking attributes made the use of Invercote Creato the best choice for our client’s packaging. Invercote Creato is also taint and odour neutral which was really important for the chocolatier, making this the right material for a project of this nature”.
Simon Allison of The Solid Chocolate Company was delighted with the finished result:
“I have spent the last few years developing a range of products and Inkmark have been an instrumental part of this process. Their knowledge of materials, machinery, technology and processes comes from many years of working in the packaging industry and this is patently clear when you ask them for opinions, quotes, and advice”
Litho printed plus spot UV and traditional hot foiling to really enhance the visual quality of the packaging.
Invercote Creato is a two‐sided, multi‐layered solid bleached board. With its super smooth surface, this product is ideal for the packaging of luxury products.
