What are strapping bands used for?

When you're sending bundles of heavy goods or pallets, you need something strong enough to secure them together. This is where pallet strapping come in handy. Ideal for both commercial and industrial settings, they can firmly secure your items so nothing comes loose or falls out in transit. This strong seal also offers anti-theft protection. Available in materials such as polypropylene, cord, paper and polyester, these bands are ideal for businesses that need to guarantee their products reach customers safely and in perfect condition.

In addition to strapping bands, you can also use cardboard edge protectors to reinforce the edges and corners of packaged items. These protectors redistribute the pressure applied by the bands, reducing the risk of crushing or damaging the packaging and its contents. By combining bands with edge protectors, you can maintain the structural integrity of the packaging so any fragile or heavy items arrive in one piece.

How to choose the right packaging straps

There are many types of strapping bands in a variety of different materials available. It's worth browsing the full range to see what best fits with your business needs before you make a decision. For example, if you need to store items in the open air, polyester strapping (PET) could be a great choice. Incredibly strong and durable, this strapping band is heat proof and UV-resistant, making it perfect for outdoor storage and long-term use. PET bands also have a high level of tear resistance, so are less likely to break under tension.

Alternatively, you could opt for woven cord polyester strapping. Made from binding polyester filaments together for extra strength, this material will ensure your products don't move around in transit, and is perfect for securing irregularly shaped or fragile items. Its lightweight yet durable nature makes it a versatile choice for various packaging needs, from securing large machinery to bundling smaller, delicate products.

What is hand strapping?

Hand strapping is a manual method used to secure and bundle items together, typically during packaging, shipping or storage. It involves using a tool or dispenser to manually apply and tension the strap around the package or pallet. Polypropylene hand strapping is a common choice for this process as it is both flexible and easy to use. It is lightweight yet strong, ideal for securing light to medium-weight loads, such as boxes, cartons and other packages. It also works well for anti-theft protection, ensuring there is no tampering with the item before it reaches its recipient.
