How do single-wall and double-wall corrugated boxes differ?

Single-wall cardboard boxes feature one layer of fluting between two linerboards, making them lightweight and suitable for packing and shipping light- to medium-weight items. They are cost-effective and eco-conscious, as they are made from a high percentage of recycled material.

Double-wall cardboard boxes, on the other hand, consists of two layers of fluting, providing greater strength and rigidity. They are ideal for shipping heavier-weight or fragile items, ensuring superior protection during storage and transit. Both options are delivered flat-packed to save storage space and are available in modular sizes that align with pallet dimensions.

What is the role of fluting in corrugated boxes?

Fluting is the wavy layer sandwiched between linerboards in corrugated boxes. They play a crucial role in their strength and cushioning properties. The type of flute—defined by its thickness and density—determines the box’s functionality:
• C flute offers excellent stacking strength and cushioning, suitable for fragile items.
• B flute provides high compression strength for end-to-end support, perfect for canned goods.
• E flute has a smoother surface for superior printing, ideal for point-of-sale displays.

Fluting ensures that corrugated boxes maintain their structural integrity while minimising weight, making them economical and reliable for various applications.

Are corrugated boxes recyclable?

Yes, corrugated boxes are highly recyclable and environmentally friendly. Most are made from a mix of FSC®-certified materials, ensuring they come from responsibly managed forests.
