A leading global manufacturer of forming machine technology, were looking to develop exportable corrosion protection packaging that was cheaper and easier to manage.
The existing packaging was traditional complex machine packaging for sea transport consisting of aluminium composite film in combination with desiccant. There was a need for it to be replaced by a simpler, cheaper but still effective and safe solution, it had to be suitable for sea transport to Asia.
A VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors) packaging solution consisting of VCI film and additional VCI deposits in the form of VCI paper, and VCI chips placed above and inside the machine were proven to be the optimum choice.
The outer packaging does not need to be heat-sealed, significantly reducing packing time and costs. This method ensures the corrosion protection for sea shipment is not compromised, and continues to hold even if the outer packaging is slightly damaged. Any opening of the packaging for a short time (e.g. by customs officers) is therefore unproblematic as once resealed the corrosion protection builds up again.
COST-EFFICIENT
With unchanged corrosion protection during sea shipping, both packaging time and costs are reduced.
TIME SAVING
The metal parts do not need to be greased or de-oiled and are ready for immediate use.
SECURE
Even with minor damage to the packaging or brief opening by customs, secure corrosion protection is guaranteed.
