Magazines  & Newsletters

Whiteness and show through are two of the most important considerations when choosing a paper for your newsletter or magazine.

Things to keep in mind:

  •  How readable is your magazine or newsletter, not just in terms of the interesting topics, but also the paper you use.
  •  What level of quality do you want – premium or standard?
  •  You may need to work the design around your title and/or logo to make sure the whole communication works in the right way for you.
  •  Decide if the images will be full colour, mono (black & white) or a combination of both of them. The papers you use need to be the right ones for the content, look and feel of the newsletter or magazine you are producing.
  •  If you are only producing small quantities, would it be better and more cost effective to print digitally. This also gives the opportunity to personalise your newsletter or magazine or to target specific segments of your market with different covers, for example.
  •  How are you going to distribute your communication? If you are planning to send it by post, decide if you are using window envelopes or labels to address them and, don't forget, that size, thickness and weight will impact on the cost of postage.
  •  Are environmental credentials important to you? If so, there are a variety of paper options to help you meet this need.
  •  Always keep in mind cost against budget.
  • The look

Decide what quality you want to portray to your audience, as different papers create different levels of quality. A wove paper will convey a completely different look (and feel) to a higher quality uncoated or iridescent paper.

  • Envelopes

Always important as they will be the first thing many people see from your company. Don’t forget to make sure your newsletter or magazine will fit a standard envelope size.

  • Imagery

Glossy papers are best for printing full colour images, but many modern, uncoated papers give very good results and convey a more luxurious feel and look.
