Direct  Mail

The papers you choose for your direct mailings will have an immediate impact and must work hard to reflect and enhance the products you are marketing.

Things to keep in mind:

  •  Think about the audience you are seeking to attract and skew your message so it speaks to them personally.
  •  Digital print is ideal for direct mailing pieces, as you can do so many things to make the mailing more personal.
  •  The papers you use play an important role in making sure the recipient is attracted to the piece and encouraged to open and read it.
  •  If your leaflet is going to contain lots of coloured images, the type of paper you use will make a difference as to how well it looks when printed. Gloss papers will give the best results, but if you want to be a little more creative then silk or even uncoated papers will deliver some outstanding results.
  •  How you finish your direct mailing or leaflet will help it to stand out and incorporating a varnish on the front and/or inside pages, foil blocking or embossing could make a big difference to the way people perceive your company and its products. If the content and messages are important to you, then it is well worth the additional cost of incorporating one or more of these finishes.
  •  Cost should also be factored in, to help you decide if you are producing a premium, designer or mass market product and you can then plan its content, print and finish to suit the market and your budget.
  •  You need to keep in mind weight and dimensions of the mailing and any envelope you use, as size, thickness and weight will impact on the cost of postage.
  •  Where environmental credentials are important to you, a variety of options to help you meet this need are available.
  • Digital Print

Papers for digital print are becoming more widely available and this form of print enables you to personalise the mailing or leaflet in a way which allows you to target each person or group with exactly the right message(s).

  • Full Colour Images

Glossy papers are best for printing full colour images, but many modern, uncoated papers give excellent results. If you are unsure about how your brochure will look when finished, ask for a dummy to be made or request printed samples of your chosen paper(s).
